Update: Is the Anti-Price Gouging Law Still in Effect in Los Angeles County?
Yes, the Anti-Price Gouging Law is still in effect across Los Angeles County. This law, originally triggered during emergency declarations like wildfires and the COVID-19 pandemic, limits rent increases to no more than 10% above pre-emergency levels.
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has extended this protection through July 31, 2025.
This law applies to both current tenants and new leases, meaning landlords cannot raise the rent more than 10%, even when a unit turns over.
If you’re a landlord considering pricing adjustments, or a tenant unsure about whether a proposed increase is legal, it’s important to understand this law is still active and enforceable.
I first wrote about this (you can read about it HERE) during the recent Palisades/Altadena fire, when many families were displaced and searching for housing. As questions continue to come up, especially from those navigating lease renewals or looking for rentals, this is your reminder that these rent protections remain in place.
If you need help understanding how this affects your property or lease, feel free to reach out. I'm always happy to be a resource.
